Carer Support Needs Assessment Tool (CSNAT) Licence for Research

The Carer Support Needs Assessment Tool (CSNAT) is an evidence-based tool to enable identification of the support needs of carers who are supporting a family member or friend with a long term and/ or life limiting illness. It is a short tool comprising 14 broad support domains that are based carers’ own accounts of the areas where they commonly require support, both to help them support the patient and to look after their own health and wellbeing. The CSNAT has been jointly developed, validated and trialled by the University of Cambridge and the University of Manchester. See https://csnat.org for further information.

The CSNAT can be used as a research tool to gain research information on the areas in which carers need more support, for instance, to identify the most common support domains within different groups of carers or caregiving contexts. Further information on using CSNAT as a research tool.

However, if it is also used to provide supportive input to carers, this means it is being used as a practice intervention and requires a CSNAT Licence for Practice and practitioner training. Further information on obtaining a CSNAT Licence for Practice.

  • The CSNAT can be licensed, free of charge, by not-for-profit organisations for non-commercial use
